Getting back to tradition, SBE Chapter 37 is inviting you to our annual picnic at the WFED (formerly WTOP) historical art deco transmitter site in picturesque Wheaton, MD. We plan to begin September 24th at noon. October 1 is our rain date - in the event bad weather is forecasted a few days in advance.
Although it's a bit unusual to utilize Zoom for this purpose, we're asking all attendees to register via Zoom using this Zoom link and indicate how many will attend in-person so we may order an appropriate amount of food. Please do this as soon as possible or Wednesday, September 21st at the latest.
The picnic is an opportunity to meet with broadcast engineering friends along with their families, spouses, and significant others. This will also be our first opportunity to see each another in over two years. As usual, we'll probably tell a few "war stories," play a little Frisbee, and dine on delicious BBQ - and BBQ Jackfruit and salad for our vegetarian guests. This year, we'll have food from local restauranter Sloppy Mama's BBQ.
Many thanks to sponsors Jim Peck of SCMS as well as Paul Fitts and Owen Garland of Vertical Technology Services for their ongoing support. Thanks also to Brian Oliger, Dave Kolesar, and the folks at WTOP for helping to make arrangements and for hosting the picnic at the WFED AM 1500 transmitter site once again!
We will be ready to serve food and soft drinks about 12:00 pm. During the day, we'll be soliciting volunteers and/or nominees to serve on the SBE Chapter 37 board since the terms of many present board members are expiring or have expired. Elections will be held at a future meeting. Please give this some thought and feel free to ask questions and share your ideas. We're also seeking a few volunteers for either setup or cleanup.
SBE membership is not required to attend. Those with an interest in broadcasting, transmitters, or amateur radio are welcome.
COVID Considerations: We'll be tempted to be in close proximity around the tables. We won't mandate masks but please be sensible: Wear masks and don't crowd as appropriate. We expect everyone in the group to be prudent and considerate enough to have been vaccinated.
