This program highlights how to build and maintain a "green" broadcast transmission facility. With simultaneous rising energy and reducing operating budgets, three industry experts will present technology improvements and a holistic approach to design and operation. Efficiency calculation procedures, power supply and circuit design, and how to reduce costs including power consumption will be covered. Total cost of ownership, ROI timing, combiner / filter design and insertion loss, signal quality versus efficiency, plus building design and HVAC considerations will also be reviewed. Efficiency will be analyzed in real world dollar terms: time, risk, and cost benefits, including a look at "comparatively inexpensive" PM and training options.

The lecture portion will be offered on the remote zoom platform. A live transmitter hands-on adjustment and training exercise will follow. Of course, to share in the in-person fellowship, dinner, and the hands on portion of the training, you'd have to elect the in-person option of this event.

Glen Hurst, Eddy Vanderkerken, and Bo Hoover will each cover facets of this subject and together offer multiple decades of experience in this sphere.

Glen Hurst studied electronics in high school and competed in VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) national competition and qualified in the top 10% in the nation. Later spent 12 years as an Electronic Tech and instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy. Glen worked internationally for both Varian managing ion implanters and Rockwell Collins on ELINT and SIGINT receivers. He joined Rohde & Schwarz America in 2005 and since has installed/commissioned/proofed 1000's of transmitters and has trained over 600 customers.

Throughout his career, Eddy Vanderkerken has proven to be a collaborative team leader adept at turnkey projects, RF and microwave, radio communications, telecommunications, video, mobile, and broadcast television equipment. He has distinguished himself in positions at Teledyne LeCroy Inc. and Rohde & Schwarz. Most recently, he applied his cumulative experience to source RF, video, TV and broadcast T&M products to U.S. customers as president of Sourcerer LLC., his own entrepreneurial venture.

Arthur "Bo" Hoover, founder and president of Technical Services Group providing consulting, design, installation, repair, and managed services for High Power Television and Radio Broadcasters. From transmitters to control rooms, TSG's experience, relationships, manufacturers, partners, vendors, and staff of Designers, Technicians, Programmers and Systems Specialists, provide best in class reliability, facilities, solutions, test and measurement, tools, and equipment. 1000's of installations, and billions of watts served. Over 4 decades of experience, we help define the needs for today and the future. More information at www.tsgcom.com.

The doors open at 6 pm Tuesday, June 27 for fellowship and dinner graciously provided by our hosts. Tours will be given of the co-located instrument laboratory calibration and repair facility. In addition, several current models of transmitters will be operational at full power for your perusal and inspection. All questions please welcome, and membership not a requirement-just an interest! Technical program starts at 7 pm.

Please Register Here to register both for in person or to receive a zoom (remote attendance) link. We need a head count to procure enough food for dinner. Rhode and Schwarz Columbia is conveniently located between Baltimore and Washington near BWI airport. Plenty of parking available.

This meeting brought to by both the DC and Baltimore SBE chapters.
